Interview with Dr. Scott C. Schaaf, The Everett Clinic

INTERVIEWER: What’s unique about your wrist surgery procedures?

DR. SCHAAF: I do wrist arthroscopy, which means that I put a small scope into the wrist joint itself. There are a lot of small problems that we can take care of, through that. There’s cartilage on the outside part of the wrist, and when it gets torn, it will give you popping and clicking in the wrist that can be painful; that can be repaired through the arthroscope, or treated through the arthroscope.

There are some small ligaments in the wrist that, if they tear, can lead to arthritis in the wrist, as well as causing pain after the injury; those can be taken care of with the arthroscope. Arthritis: you can buy someone some time with arthroscopic surgery for wrist arthritis. So, that’s something that’s relatively unique to my practice. There are only a couple of us in the area that do wrist arthroscopy. But it’s something that I’ve found to be very successful and very helpful for people.

INTERVIEWER: What can you tell us about advanced technology in your work?

DR. SCHAAF: What do I do that would be considered advanced technology? Well, a couple of things that come to mind for me personally… Arthroscopic rotator cuff repair. Even in the fifteen years that I’ve been out of residency, rotator cuff repairs have gone from being big open incisions, to being done with four tiny one-stitch incisions. That’s been within the last five or ten years, that’s really come into vogue and been a lot more mainstream.

The other thing I do that’s relatively unique is wrist arthroscopy. There aren’t a lot of people in the area that do small joint arthroscopy. I can repair ligaments, or even repair cartilages through the arthroscope of the wrist. Those are tiny little scopes and tiny little incisions. So, that’s something that’s more advanced technology that I do.

The models of partial knee replacements have advanced greatly over the last few years. It’s something that I’ve added and been very happy with. I think patients rehab a lot faster and are much more comfortable after that surgery, if they’re the right candidate.

Choosing to have plastic surgery may seem like a major decision but there are actually a number of reasons why people choose to have this surgery. Although many of us think that the only reason to have plastic surgery is for cosmetic reasons, there are many other reasons for choosing it. Here are just some of the top reasons why people might decide that they want this kind of treatment.

- People who have been involved in a traumatic accident will often require some type of plastic surgery afterwards. A lot of accidents will cause major damage to the body and when this happens, plastic surgery is often required to rectify this. If people have deformities following an accident they will usually want these repaired as much as possible.

- Different health issues can lead to situations where people may require plastic surgery. An example of this would be sleep apnoea which may require a form of plastic surgery on the nose in order to stop this problem.

- Some people are born with physical deformities that can greatly impact their life. It is quite understandable that these people would want to get these deformities fixed in order to improve the quality of their life.

- Low self esteem is often suffered by certain people because of how they see themselves. For some of these people, life becomes unbearable because of the low self esteem and in extreme cases it could even result in suicide. These individuals could benefit from plastic surgery that helps them improve their sense of self esteem.

- Another reason for having plastic surgery would be gender reassignment. Gender reassignment is something that a lot of people feel they need because in their opinion, they were born in the wrong gender.

For a whole choice of therapies that entail Botox, Michael Sheill is a person to go and see. When the most scientifically advanced and most ground breaking of strategies are a key concern on your list, Michael Sheill and the many treatment centers he owns across the southern part of England are really worthy of serious thought.
